Pressed Glass Collection

Ice

A frosted pressed-glass form, reduced to essential geometry, in three sizes.

The Ice is a cordless table lamp in frosted pressed glass, offered in three pure geometric forms. A small cylinder, a small rectangular column, and a larger rectangular block. There is no visible shade, no metal collar and no decoration. The glass diffuses a warm LED into a clean, omnidirectional glow that reads the same from any side of the table. Rated to IP64, it works equally well in dining rooms, on bars and outdoors.

Three forms in the same family

The Ice is offered in three pressed-glass forms. A round 85mm cylinder, a square 85mm column, and a larger square 100mm block. All in the same frosted finish.

The Design Story

A specifier's lamp, on a designer's table

The Ice has quietly become one of the most specified lamps in the NEOZ range, and it has done so without much help from a story. Peter Ellis and Jackie Chan designed it across 2005 and 2006 as a piece of pure geometry: a frosted pressed-glass form, omnidirectional, with no shade, no visible base and no decoration. What it offers a designer or an architect is the absence of detail. The lamp sits on a table and lights it without bringing any other vocabulary into the room.

That restraint is what has put it on tables at Bennelong inside the Sydney Opera House, at Hugo's Manly and Whalebridge on the Sydney waterfront, at Rivea by Alain Ducasse at Hotel Byblos Saint Tropez, and at Crown Towers Melbourne. The Ice works as comfortably under a sandstone arch as it does on a marble terrace, and the same lamp specified across a 150-cover room reads as a single quiet line rather than a hundred separate objects.

It is also one of the few NEOZ pieces that works in both round and square forms within the same collection, so designers can mix shapes across a room without breaking the visual language.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Pressed glass, frosted to a soft satin

Pressed glass is a different proposition to blown glass. Where the Egg and the Corner Light are hand-blown into organic forms with slight variations from piece to piece, the Ice is pressed into a mould under heat and weight, then released and finished as a precise geometric form. Every Ice is the same as the next, which is part of the point: the lamp is built for specification at scale, where consistency across thirty or three hundred lamps matters as much as the design itself.

The outer surface is frosted to a soft satin that softens the warm LED into a uniform glow with no hot spot. There is no visible bulb, no fabric, no metal collar at the top, and no exposed wiring. The base is rated to IP64 for indoor and outdoor use, and the lamp is weighted to hold its position on terraces and rooftops in moderate breeze. The N1 Light Engine is fully serviceable and replaceable across all three forms.
