Albert

Albert was designed in 2014 by Peter Ellis and Tammy Chiew for a five-star hotel in London, where the brief was straightforward: a cordless lamp that could be specified at scale, lit a table without dominating it, and looked at home across multiple food and beverage settings. More than a decade on, the design holds up in the rooms it was made for. Albert lights tables at The Rubens at the Palace and Browns Hotel in London, the Conrad Hong Kong, Hotel Savoy Florence, the Ritz-Carlton St Louis and Place du Casino Monaco. Closer to home, it sits on tables at the Apollo Inn in Melbourne and Rothwell's Bar & Grill in Brisbane.

The form is intentionally quiet. A square, columnar base in solid brass, a tailored shade, and a soft pool of light at table height. Nothing about it asks to be looked at. What it offers instead is a piece of equipment that performs in a working room, night after night, and pairs as readily with white linen as it does with marble or burnished timber.
