The Nimbus is a cordless table lamp designed by James Perry for the close, considered space of dining. A broad base, a slim stem and a softly domed shade keep sightlines clear across the table while a custom LED disc casts a focused, glare-free ring of light onto the surface. Finished in polished gold or silver chrome, it reflects the room around it rather than competing with it.

The Design Story

Designed for the table, not the room

Nimbus is the work of James Perry, designed in 2026 for one specific job: to shape the atmosphere of a dining table without dominating it. The form is reduced to three resolved gestures. A broad base anchors the lamp against the table. A slim stem keeps the line of sight open between guests. A domed shade shields the light source from the diner's eye and directs the light down onto the surface where it is needed.

Viewed from the table, the silhouette has a continuous, uninterrupted quality, as though the form could extend beyond the object itself. The restrained height keeps it practical for real dining environments without softening that sculptural character.

The defining detail is the halo. The curve of the body reflects and concentrates the light around the base into a soft ring, grounding the lamp and gently extending its presence across the table. Rather than lighting the wider room, Nimbus draws attention back to the people gathered around it. As James Perry puts it, the lamp is not there to become the feature piece. It is there to elevate the experience around it.

Materials & Craftsmanship

Polished chrome that reflects the room

Nimbus is finished in polished chrome plated onto mild steel, offered in gold and silver. The reflective surface is the point: rather than presenting a fixed colour, it shifts through the evening as movement, texture and light change around it, catching fragments of glassware, timber and stone so the lamp reads as part of the table rather than placed upon it. The effect is jewellery-like, refinement without decorative detailing, letting the form and the material do the work.

That restraint also serves the floor. There is no ornament to catch dust and no detailing to wear, only smooth, wipeable surfaces built for nightly service. Inside, a custom 1W LED disc renders colour at 2600K and CRI 93+, bright enough to light a place setting faithfully while staying warm. The lamp is rated to IP64 for covered outdoor and poolside dining, and like every NEOZ lamp, the battery, light source and diffuser are user-replaceable.
